HUNGRY GOD

Hindu Gods are very hungry. An endless stream of pilgrims offer puja's, mostly in the form of food, a few times a day to their favourite deity.

Indian artist Subodh Gupta uses the shiny stainless steel pots, found in every Indian household, to create sculptures or as subject/material for his paintings.

BOOMERANG EFFECT

The essence of recycling is that what you throw out comes back to you to be used again.

The sports equipment ultimately embodying this is of course the boomerang, famous for naming a theory of reactance.

German artist Wolf von Kries parcelled and stamped a handmade boomerang and sent it off to Australia to an non-existant address. After a while the parcel was returned to his own address.

3D B-BALL

Berlin artist Angela Lubic created a graphical 3-dimensional basketball court projected on the outer wall of a school building. 3 basketball hoops are attached within the graphics. A pedestrian zone is transformed in a recreational zone for sport and exercise

The entangled lines of the courts are very disorientating and with a third hoop it seems new rules are in order to play the game.

KÖRPERKULTUR

The fitness of the human body and art have a lifelong relationship. The modernists of the Bauhaus were aware of that. Mandatory in the education program of the Dessau arts & crafts institute was physical exercise.

POWER FOOD

Patrick Bérubé, Canadian artist, made this piece as part of a larger installation 'Allégories de la Débilité ...' consisting of satirical objects with confusing and contradictionary content.

MY ADIDAS

THE biggest influence on streetwear-fashion must come from RUN DMC, masters of hip-hop!
Their record 'My Adidas' (1985) revived the Adidas company single handed and introduced the unlaced sneaker to the world of fashion.

Run DMC's record boss Russell Simmons later launched his own streetwear fashion label: Phat Farm ('phat' as in 'cool', not 'fat'!)

LIPOSUCTION FUEL STATION

Installation artist Michel de Broin proposes a human fat recycle project much in the same way as the origin of this blog (fitness feedback inc.).
In his model for 'Reciprocal Energy' he suggests that human fat, economised by driving motorized means of transport, should be made available as fuel for these vehicles. Through the combination of a liposuction clinic and a fuel station both the problems with obesity and fuel shortage can be tackled in one go.

"The model presents a development project for a liposuction clinic directly related to a gas station where the human fat will be resold as anthropo-diesel fuel. The liquidating of fat will be refunded at the market price (per liter) of biodiesel, wherein the price of fuel reaches that of the cost of extraction by liposuction."
